What are some things to look for when looking for a chiropractor?

The #1 thing you should look for in a chiropractor is someone who talks about your nervous system. Pain is the last sign of dysfunction so there is a lot more happening within your body before you physically feel it. A side effect of removing interference to your body’s nervous system — which allows your body to heal itself — is that your pain goes away. Chiropractic is not about back pain or neck pain because it’s so much more than pain relief, though we are really good at getting you out of pain.

Do you accept insurance?

In short, no. We are a direct pay office and all of our practice members pay at the time of service or pre-pay on one of our monthly plans. We are not in-network with any insurance companies because we cannot deliver our standard of care when a third party is involved, telling us what we can and cannot do for our practice members. If your insurance covers out-ot-network chiropractic care, our doctors can provide you with a "superbill". This will allow patients to individually request reimbursements from insurance companies outside of the office.

NUCCA CHIROPRACTIC

  • NUCCA stands for National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association and is a gentle form of chiropractic in which chiropractors adjust the whole spine with a light touch to the upper neck. There is no “popping”, “twisting”, or “cracking” and as a patient, you are in a comfortable side-lying position during the adjustment. Read more HERE.

  • In most situations, yes. The structures we deal with are quite complex. X-rays improve the assurance that you are receiving the proper care for your case. As we say, “to see is to know; to not see is to guess.” We will not guess with your care.

  • Yes. Modern X-ray machines are very efficient and the x-ray dosage is minimal. You get more radiation on a plane flight across the country than you do with a set of full spine X-rays. Read all about it HERE.

  • Nasal Specific Technique, also known as Bilateral Nasal Specific (BNS) or Nasal Cranial Release (NCR), is a balloon-assisted technique that adjusts the cranial plates of your skull and improves the flow of cerebrospinal fluid to your body and the proper flow of blood to your brain. It is great for people with allergies, chronic sinusitis, headaches, and chronic congestion among other conditions.

  • Yes. However, there are certain contraindications that exclude people as candidates for this technique. These situations will be assessed by Dr. Barwick during the nasal consultation and, if any contraindications exist, Dr. Barwick will inform you and decide how to proceed.

PEDS + PERINATAL CHIROPRACTIC

  • It is important to get prenatal chiropractic care from a doctor who is (at a bare minimum) certified in Webster Technique through the ICPA. This technique addresses neuro-biomechanical tension of the uterus and pelvis, allowing for the pelvis and birth canal to expand through pregnancy, labor, and birth. When there is tension on the uterus it can restrict baby’s movement in-utero (and we all know how much babies prefer to move and wiggle in there!). Imagine trying to get into a bed when all the sheets are tucked in. If we can release uterine tension and balance the pelvis, it’s as if we are ‘untucking the sheets’ and allowing more room to move so the baby can find optimal positioning. Some pregnant women report feeling their baby move more after receiving Webster Technique.

  • Yes! Chiropractic, in general, is very safe and effective. Dr. Ashley has done extensive specialized training to care for pregnant mamas, on top of receiving her Webster certification. With advanced education in perinatal care, we understand pregnancy and the special needs that come with this exciting season of life. We use special tables and specifically designed pregnancy pillows to ensure mama is both safe and comfortable during adjustments.

  • Immediately following a woman’s birth, the body immediately begins working to tighten ligaments, realign organs, and realign bones. It is a process that takes TIME (up to a year in fact!), and while this is happening, postpartum mothers are altering their bodies by holding their new baby, learning to breastfeed, and surviving in a state of exhaustion. A new mother’s body is not in its peak performance state.

Seeing a chiropractor after birth grants mothers the ability to jump-start their body’s healing process. Chiropractic care ensures proper blood flow to the recovering body, aligns the spine to allow proper communication within the nervous system, and as an added bonus can alleviate aches, pains, and other symptoms.

  • The lasting effects birth has on the health of infants and children is not something that is addressed in conventional healthcare. Some things that can cause trauma during birth include:

    Very long labor
    Pain medications
    Restricted birthing positions
Pulling or twisting on baby’s head during delivery
    Cesarean

When this trauma is left uncorrected it can often cause neurological dysfunction and kick a child’s nervous system into fight-or-flight mode, causing many health challenges that could have been prevented. Nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, inability to be soothed, colic, constipation, and reflux are examples and signs of how spinal nerve stress can impact infants.
